The Blogspot SEO Experiment: Can This Free Blog Still Rank in 2026?

Well, here we go. I just hit 'publish' on a brand new, completely free Blogspot blog. The domain? A mouthful: https://theblogspotexperiment.blogspot.com/. Welcome to day one of a very public experiment.

The question I'm trying to answer is one I've seen asked in countless forums and social media groups, usually met with a mix of nostalgia and skepticism: Can a Blogspot blog actually rank in Google search and make money in 2025 and 2026?

Is this platform, a relic from the golden age of blogging, still a viable option for someone looking to start a side hustle without spending a dime? Or has the SEO world moved on completely, leaving Google's own free platform in the dust?

I don't have the answer. But I'm determined to find out.

Blogspot SEO Experiment:

Why Am I Doing This?

Like many of you, I'm fascinated by the idea of creating something online that generates extra income. But the barrier to entry seems to get higher every year. You're told you need to pay for hosting, buy a premium theme, invest in expensive tools, and purchase a custom domain right from the start.

But what if you don't have the budget for all that? What about the person who just has an idea and a bit of time? That's where Blogspot comes in. It's the ultimate low-risk starting point. It's free, it's owned by Google, and it's been around forever.

So, this blog will serve as a living case study. I'm putting the conventional wisdom to the test.

The Game Plan

Transparency is the name of the game here. I'm not an SEO guru with secret tricks up my sleeve. I'm just a regular person who's willing to document the entire process. Here’s what you can expect:

  1. The Niche: The niche is the experiment itself! I'll be writing about my journey trying to rank this very blog. I'll cover blogging, SEO tips I'm trying, monetization strategies, and, of course, regular progress reports.

  2. Content Schedule: My goal is to publish a new post every 3 to 4 days. I'll be focusing on creating genuinely helpful content that people interested in this topic would actually want to read.

  3. The SEO Strategy: I'll start with the basics. Solid keyword research, good on-page SEO, and creating quality content. No fancy, expensive link-building campaigns. I want to see how far organic growth can take us. I'll be setting up Google Search Console and Analytics to track every click, impression, and visitor.

  4. Monetization: Once I have some traffic (fingers crossed!), I'll document my attempts to monetize the blog, most likely starting with Google AdSense.

My Prediction? I Have No Idea.

Part of me thinks this is a fool's errand. The other part is hopeful that a platform owned by the world's largest search engine must have some potential, right?

I invite you to follow along with me. Bookmark this site. Check back in a week, a month, or six months from now. You'll see my successes and my failures in real-time.

So, what do you think will happen? Is Blogspot a forgotten fossil, or a hidden gem for budget-conscious creators? Leave a comment below with your prediction.

Let the experiment begin.
